Save Money by Turning Something Old Into Something New!

For those that do not know, I love sewing and crafting. I will be honest though, supplies for each project can be very expensive. DIY  projects can really burn a hole in your pocket. I want to share today how I save money using old items to make new items. Most people that have children like me throw their children's old clothes in the trash. Most of us do but before I toss my children's clothes I always take the time to observe and see what is reusable. A few things that I recycle: buttons, zippers, hooks, material, lace, rhinestones, & elastic. My mother is a very prominent fashion designer and sometimes even she does this.

When ever I am making crafts or artwork, I do the same thing. I am inspired a lot of times by things that are laying around my home. I guess its a gift. My sister majored in fashion & design and does artwork, but it all started with my late grandmother. She could sew and make the prettiest quilts all by hand. She pretty much used scraps from old clothes. We actually save soda can tops, pretty greeting cards for scrapbook making, or just anything that will help cut down the cost of purchasing supplies.

I still pretty much live in Michael's, Joannes, & Hobby Lobby but I love the idea of making something that no one has and saving money doing so. So the next time you toss something in the trash thing about what parts you can save if you are a crafty kind of person like me. You may even be a person that works with small children. Think about what you can save to do artwork with the children.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this blog and you must take a look at the videos below!

How to make bracelets out of soda can tops. My daughter makes these all the time. I love the fact that because they are aluminum, they do not turn or rust.

Now this one blew my mind. I do not make flowers out of foil but I do make them out of fabric. Take a look at this flower made from recycled tin foil.
