Tips to Help You Save Money on Groceries

Saving Money Without Using Coupons!

I think that most can agree that groceries are very high and the prices aren't getting any better! Some don't have a problem with using coupons, then there are others that do not want to be bothered with them. For those that do not want to use them, this would be great for you.

Five Tips to Help You Save!

1. Buy items only when they are on sale!
2. Purchase items in bulk or in large size.
3. Take advantage of buy one get one free items.
4. Look for clearance items. (items that have been marked down)
5. Use rein checks. If an item is on sale and the store runs out of it, when the items is available again in the store, even though the sale is over because you got a rein check from customer service, you can still get that item on sale. You can even get multiples of rein checks if you get one on different days. (who has to know) If the store is still out of the item the next day, you can get another one especially if a new person is working in customer service. :)

Stop Wasting Food!

I'll be honest, I just threw away a whole rotten bell pepper and some lettuce that I had in the bottom of my fridge. This is money in the trash. A new thing for me is taking vegetables like bell peppers, chopping them up, and putting them in zip lock bags. My only excuse is that I was so busy last week that I forgot the bell pepper and lettuce was in the bottom of the fridge but this has got to stop!! Not to mention, the molded bread! :) Think of unique ways to stop wasting your money!

 Shop at Warehouse Stores

Stores like BJ's and Sams club have some great deals. A yearly membership is less than 40.00 and the savings will be well worth your money. You can purchase items in large quantities and they even have other items like clothes, accessories, personal care items, toiletries, and electronics and much more. Meat Market stores are another great place to save money. They usually have fresher cuts and you will get much more for your money.

Use Frequent Shoppers Cards

There are many stores that will allow a person to use these cards. The cards are free and you can get them scanned every time you make a purchase. Kroger is one of the main grocery chains known for allowing the use of this type of card. Once the card is swiped, then there are discounts given on certain items purchased. Take advantage of these cards and don't forget to use them and keep them in your wallet.

My Favorite! Coupons!

I love using coupons because a person can be a little more versatile with them. They can be combined with store sales. For example if a store has items already on sale and you have a coupon for the sale item, then you get double savings. I have even gotten triple savings before. I have even gotten items free from the store.

A person can even be paid overages at the register using coupons. This has happened to me several times and the people behind me usually just stare or ask questions. The cashier is usually amazed but I am not!! It really is simple. You combine as many deals in one. Keep a sales paper handy and play the matching game with your coupons. Match-up any coupons that you have with items in the sales paper. Even if you need to pin the  coupon to the sales paper, do what you need to do to get those deals

This is an example of an overage. I have a store coupon for .50 off of  milk. The coupon doubles at Kroger. There is a sale on milk another .75 cents off that price but I also have a manufactures coupon for 2.00 off that price. Yes you can get all of these deals in one because you can use a store and a manufacturer's coupon at the same time. Now Kroger does not have their own store coupons but stores like Publix, Family Dollar etc... does. At the end of the transaction, the discounts that you received were way over the cost of the milk, so this is how they owed you money. They will either take that amount they owe you off other groceries that you purchased or give it directly to you.

For those that do not know a store coupon is a coupon that the stores provides. A manufacture's coupon which can sometimes be found in the grocery store but mostly in the Sunday paper are provided by the manufacturer.

One Last Tip! I could go on and on!

When you have a coupon deal that you will use with a (BOGO) buy one get one free - only purchase one of the buy one get one free items but still use your coupon. Always have multiples of that coupon because you are gonna get in another line if the coupon states that you can only use one per transaction and make the same transaction. It is cheaper to purchase one of the BOGO items but you will still get it for the sale price which will be 1/2 of the cost had you bought two. This is another way of potentially getting items free or almost free. I hope this isn't confusing!

Remember if a coupon states that you can purchase ANY size of an item, always buy the smallest item. For example instead of 8 oz. you will purchase 4 oz. It will be cheaper in the long run.

Digital Coupons:

Now if you are not with using paper coupons. The hassle of clipping, organizing them, and remembering to use them, there are stores that are now using these types of coupons. They are coupons that are already programmed on your rewards cards. All you do is scan the card at the register and your coupon deals come off then.

  1. Just received a payment for $500.

Many times people don't believe me when I tell them about how much you can get taking paid surveys online...

So I show them a video of myself actually getting paid over $500 for filling paid surveys.
