Twenty Money Saving Tips
1. Make washcloths out of your old t-shirts. How about making the perfect washcloths for washing your car, washing windows, or doing those dirty jobs around the house that you otherwise would not want to use your good washcloths to do. Simply cut the shirts into perfect squares and that's all you need to do.
2. Invest your money on a Sunday paper to find coupons that will save money on groceries, restaurant deals, household items, and shopping at department stores.
3. If you need to save money on your gas bill, try washing your clothes in cold water instead of warm or hot water. You could even save money on your electric bill by washing your clothes in less minutes than you would usually wash them. For example if you usually wash your clothes on the fifteen minute wash, you can cut that down to eight minutes or less.
4. Make a free change jar out of a used mayonnaise jar to save your loose spare change in. You could even be creative and decorate your jar. Make sure you use a knife to slit a hole in the top of your jar.
5. If you are a person that is crafty or sews then before throwing away old clothing items see what supplies you can recycle such as buttons, zippers, hooks, and lace.
6. If you like to read books like me you can save a lot of money purchasing your books on Amazon or from yard sales. You can also take advantage of what books are available free from your public library.
7. Stretch your pennies by popping your popcorn the old fashioned way. I love microwave popcorn but I get more for my money when I buy popcorn in the plastic bags.
8. We all should have a favorite dollar store. One of my favorite dollar stores is Dollar Tree. I love this store because they have a good selection of not too cheap quality items and everything is a dollar.
9. Purchase or make your home energy efficient. There are many things a person can do to save money on the cost of living in a home. One thing a person can do is add weather stripping to a home. Another is to purchase a home with a fireplace. One more thing to do is take care of any leaks that may be present from your faucets.
10. Slow down on taking those one hour showers. When I really need to relax I take long showers but when its really just about getting clean, I am in and out the shower in fifteen minutes and yes I am clean.
11. Fill your gas tank up. When a person takes too many frequent stops to the gas station this can be not only time consuming but will cost you to use even more gas making these frequent trips.
12. Try not to create any extra debt. If you have credit cards try not to use them unless you have emergencies. The better thing to do is not use them at all.
13. When vacationing, look for packaged deals that will include your room and board, attractions, and possibly your food.
14. When you purchase items at your local grocery store or any store such as groceries, personal care items, household cleaning items etc... Purchase them in bulk when they are on sale.
15. If you have credit card bills or loans, try to pay more on your bill each month than you actually owe. This way you will lower your interest and save money. You can also do the same thing on your mortgage. There are people that have managed to take years off of their mortgage this way.
16. Barter to save money. A person can barter just about anything from baby sitting services, to services that you offer. Maybe you have a friend that has children like you and the both of you need baby sitting services. You can help each other by baby sitting each others children. Maybe there are certain services that you could use but you do not have the money to pay for those services. Think about what hobbies or expertise that you are good at and try to barter services.
17. Maybe you live in a place where you do not have many neighbors and it really doesn't mater if you hang an old fashioned clothes line in your back yard. During the spring summer months you can save money by drying your clothes this way.
18. Are you tired of purchasing bottled water? Try purchasing a water purifying system to ad to your faucets.
19. Make your own hamburger helper. It is a whole lot cheaper to purchase the ingredients yourself and you get a lot more for your money.
20. Stay away from overdraft fees from your bank. You are giving away your money if you do not pay attention to how much money you are withdrawing from your bank.
